Josef has a spinal injury

Friday 02.07.2010

After being taken from Spain to Liberec Regional Hospital the GP2 championships driver, Josef Král, underwent other specialised examinations.

They revealed a spinal injury that will take a long time to heal. “Mr. Král has a stable spine fracture in the chest area” said the physician of Liberec Neurosurgical Medical Clinic, doc. MUDr. Petr Suchomel, Ph.D. “Specifically two vertebrae are fractured. The injury does not require surgery. The spinal cord is not injured. The treatment will take two to three months and we expect a full recovery without any consequences.”

“After the optimistic prognosis in Spain the results of examinations in the Czech Republic surprised us,” said the BRT team manager, Petr Najman. “Therefore we are very glad that we took every care when getting Josef home and he is now being looked after by the best physicians.”

“My main priority is a full recovery and getting back to the racing track as soon as possible,” says Josef in a message. “The support that I am receiving from my fans helps me a lot at this time and I sincerely thank everyone for it.”

Josef Král collided during the sprint race of the GP2 formula series last weekend in Valencia, Spain.
