The body slowly recovers

Monday 28.06.2010

Josef Král continues to recover from the severe incident in Sunday’s sprint race of the GP2 formula championships in Valencia hospital.

He continues to recover from the post-traumatic shock which is a process that can last several days. Oedema on and inside the body cause severe pains but today Josef managed to sit up in the hospital bed and physicians even allowed him light food. But he must not stand up or have a mobile phone. Physicians expect that on Monday he will be taken from the intensive care unit to the traumatological department where he will undergo other neurological examinations.
“It’s good how he keeps talking about the start at Silverstone but when we saw how he was drenched in sweat at lunchtime, I don’t know,” said the driver’s dad, Josef Král Sr. “Of course the physicians will have the last word about this. If they allow him to start and Josef wants to we will not stop him. The best thing for his psyche is to sit behind a steering wheel as soon as possible. But now we are dealing with different things. The physicians say that it should be OK so we can start organising a transfer to the Czech Republic where specialist doctors will take care of him and fix his injuries. We take advantage of any visit that the doctors allow and deliver messages from fans, which give Josef extra strength. Thank you all for them.”
The Australian F1 driver, Mark Webber, had a very similar collision during the F1 feature race. But unlike Josef Král more favourable circumstances when crashing into the tyre barrier allowed Webber to walk away on his own from the accident. Nevertheless the whirl of events has already started in the background to put things back to their original condition. “The chassis supplier for the GP2 championships, Dallara, has already inspected Josef´s car and confirmed that it cannot be used anymore. The Super Nova Racing team is now awaiting the delivery of a new chassis so that they can start preparing a new car for future races,” said the BRT team manager, Petr Najman. “The International Automobile Federation kept Josef´s helmet and his HANS head restraint system for analyses, which is more evidence of FIA´s continuing effort to improve motor sport safety standards. Each accident can supply valuable information. The important thing is that there were no medical complications and Josef’s health has stabilized. We are in permanent contact with the physicians not only here in Spain but also at home to get everything necessary ready. And of course we are organising everything for getting him back to the Czech Republic. Although it hurts Josef a lot to move at the moment the fact that he keeps talking about the Silverstone race just shows his inner strength and we will be very happy if we manage to organize everything so that he can get behind a steering wheel again. All day long we receive messages not only from fans but also from competitors who want Josef to return to the racing circuit as soon as possible. I would like to thank everyone on behalf of Josef and the whole team for the support.”
